The Old Testament Dismissed?

Why does the major part of Christianity appear to have dismissed the teachings and authority of the Old Testament?

This is a real thought provoking statement.  Is it true or a perception?  Well, let's have a look.

What amazes me is that our Lord Jesus Christ left us the example of walking in total obedience and submission to the Word of God, the Torah. Yet in our generation there are men and women that deem themselves of such authority that believe they can decide what is to be obeyed from the Word of God and what is to be ignored,

Here are some of the objects of discussion:

A. Tithing

There are so many Christians that, when they are asked why they do not tithe, answer: It is an old Testament law and we are not under the law anymore, and by the way, it isn't taught in the New Testament.

This is actually an answer that has to be replied to in two parts.

Part 1: It is an Old Testament law and we are free from the law.

Read Gal 3:13  Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us.  A statement with which I fully agree.  Christ has made us free from the curse of the law.  But He has never made us free from the law; only the curse of the law. What is the curse of the law?

Isaiah 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. KJV

Isaiah 53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he has poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. KJV

From the above two scriptures (and many others) it is clear the curse of the law lies in the punishment prescribed by the law If anyone does not meet the requirements specified by the law.

Isaiah 53:12 makes it clear the our Lord Jesus Christ took the punishment (the curse of the law) for our sins upon himself.  He died that we can enjoy eternal life.

So back to tithing; If we read in Malachi 3:10 Bring you all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it, There is a blessing attached to the law referred to here. (Leviticus 27:30 and other places) KJV

Mathew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil (Implement).

Mathew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to do away with or undo the Law or the Prophets; I have come not to do away with or undo but to complete and fulfil them. Amplified

Part 2: It isn't taught in the New Testament

Our Lord Jesus agreed with and confirmed tithing and paid the temple tax without question.

Mathew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. KJV

What was left undone?  . . for ye  . . have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith. So, the tithing part was kept in the New Testament. Then the answer is: Tithing is never taught in the New Testament.  Does it mean it is not to be done from the New Testament onwards?

Well, if that principle is true we should not praise and worship as we do in the meetings we hold - for it is not taught in the New Testament.

Tithing was fully taught in the Old Testament; just like praise and worship. Can you see how ridiculous that argument is?

B. Christians cannot be effected by curses from evil men

Many people, families and Churches are going through though times because of curses placed on the by others.

Is it curses or bloodline curses only that are the problem? or are the more things to consider?

How is it that most of the Church writes the reference to curses off as stories that belong to the Old Testament?

Once anyone talks to ministers that conducted deliverance sessions, in their ministry to the Body of Christ, it becomes clear that they come up against some something that cannot be explain outside the Biblical context. It is spiritual forces that prevent people to act in a way that is expected of a person that is normal according to the standards of the society they live in. Spiritual forces that causes people to act in ways that are not acceptable to society.

There are many actions and/or behavioural patterns that the medical profession cannot explain. They can only treat those people with heavy drugs.

Yet in many cases these same people, once they have been ministered to, change their their behaviour patterns to become more acceptable to others. This, normally, does not happen over night. The change comes after a period where the person are taught the principles from the Word of God, his/her relationship with Jesus Christ grows to a level of maturity where the person can begin to take authority over the spirits that influences his/her life. They begin to have the victory through the Blood of the Lamb and the Word of their testimony.

Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

To be completed shortly!
